Grow With Golf

In support of the Organization’s 3 Pillars (1) Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics Awareness (2) Work Readiness and (3) Reduction of Youth Violence, The Juneteenth Golf Outing Workshop Series was developed.  The series workshops are entitled Money Management, Professional Presence, and Communication Compass.  First, Money Management allows a practical application of mathematics.  Second, Professional Presence infuses the importance of perception and its impact on future opportunities.  Third, Communication Compass supports a shift in mindset and culture to exercise a set of tools to de-escalate and avoid conversations and tensions which may lead to violence.

The Money Management Workshop was presented In November to approximately 50 female high school students of the AKAdette Club, ASO a teen mentoring club.  The workshop was facilitated by Vice President Commercial Relationship Manager Mr. Michael Towns and Universal Banker II Mr. Branden R. Thomas of Adelphi Bank, along with Mr. Gerry Hammond, PGA and Founder/CEO of Hammond Golf Academy at The Golf Depot and In The Number.  During the session, students participated in an interactive activity on the importance of budgeting and received insight on the absence of and need for African-American females in golf and how participating in the sport can increase exposure to greater opportunities.

The Professional Presence Workshop is scheduled for Winter and will be delivered to a local youth group and facilitated by experienced consultants.  The session will cover being “seen”, and allow for reflection on how you are “seen” versus how you want to be “seen”.
